fire escape

Gardenista served up a little slice of heaven to me in the form of Marie Viljoen's blog 66 Square Feet. Swoon. I would love that little terrace. Room for two small chairs?? A girl can dream. Here's my 6 square feet:

Basil, Jet Stars and Big Boys, Pimentos, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Tarragon, Mint.

Container gardens often need more water than a regular garden during a heat wave. We had several while we were away, and the tomato leaves shriveled and browned pretty quickly. They have recovered, but I do think their growth was partially stunted.

Cherry peppers (pimentos).
When you live in a city, you improvise a sense of space.

We illegally use our fire escape for improvising :). I don't officially condone everything I'm about to tell you ~

We use our fire escape as respite from the indoors.

Sometimes we take our cocktails or coffee out there.

Teeny tiny Prudential to the right.

Recently, we enjoyed fire escape fire works. The fire escape faces southeast towards the Charles. This 4th of July, as it was too hot and muggy to leave the comfort of an air conditioned space. And being the tallest building in Davis Sq., even on a hot night we get some relief from the ocean up there.

It's not particularly comfortable, but it sure is better than nothing.
